Scenario comparison

How SeeMoney models mortgage scenarios forward from today and compares your chosen payment path against a minimum-payment baseline.

Scenario projections

Each property in SeeMoney is a mortgage scenario: a forward projection based on the balance, remaining term, interest rate, and payment you enter. Figures are modeling estimates for exploration, not lender statements or financial advice.

Projections always start from today. When you return later, the simulation recalculates from the new “today” using your stored inputs. Update your balance, term, or rate when you want to track a scenario in real time.

Two simulations: your scenario vs minimum baseline

Every property comparison runs two parallel simulations from the same starting inputs:

Your scenario

Uses your stored payment amount and any future events (lump sums, rate changes, payment updates). This is the path you are modelling.

Minimum baseline

Uses the calculated minimum payment only, no events, no extra payments, over the full remaining term. This is the reference for “pay the minimum for the whole term.”

The difference between these two simulations drives interest saved, time saved, and the balance chart on the scenario page. Future events affect your scenario only; the minimum baseline never includes them.

Savings and payoff

Interest saved = baseline total interest minus your scenario total interest. Time saved is the difference in periods to payoff, converted to years and months.

  • Positive savings - your scenario costs less interest or pays off sooner than the minimum baseline
  • Zero savings - same outcome (e.g. payment equals minimum with no events)
  • Negative savings - your scenario costs more interest (e.g. payment below minimum)

When your scenario will not pay off within the remaining term, payout date is not shown and outstanding balance at term end is displayed instead. If the baseline would pay off but your scenario would not, time saved shows as zero rather than a negative value.
